Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur Prabhupada made his appearance in the home of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur in Jagannath Puri on Friday, February 6, 1874. He was the fourth son of Bhaktivinoda Thakur and Srilati Bhagavati Devi. This house, named Narayan Chata, is situated not far from the Jagannath Temple on Grand Road in Puri, and was constantly reverberating with the sound of harinama. He was a beautiful child with all the bodily symptoms of a great personality that are described in the scriptures. Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur named his son Sri Bimala Prasad, meaning “the mercy of the transcendental potency of Lord Jagannatha”.
